AMTRA Training Manual

As part of the enrolment fee, AMTRA will provide each candidate with a training manual for you to study. If you wish, you can also book on a course run by one of the colleges. If you book a course with one of the colleges, you must still enrol directly with AMTRA.

The training manual is divided into the five species modules; each may be revised from time to time. Where we consider that the changes are substantive, we will provide copies of the changed bits to all student RAMAs and trainers, but for minor changes (that wouldn’t affect the exam) only newly enrolled students will get the new version. Each module has the version date on the contents page (as “03-18” for March 2018, for instance).

Avian

Current version: May 2014. (No changes to syllabus in March 2017.)

Base

November 2019: updated section A (Introduction) and section B (Legislation and Regulation). Some minor edits, but additional clarity in section B1 on legal categories, in particular to note that there are POM-VPS companion-animal medicines: those qualifying as C-RAMAs should understand all of the regulatory provisions, not just those that relate to the products they personally intend to retail.

December 2018: updated to include the 6 December 2018 version of VMD’s retail guidance (Section 5 of the manual). There are several changes but all are minor and do not impact on the responsibilities of RAMAs. No substantive changes to the document, so not circulated to currently registered students.

April 2018: updated to include the 17 April 2018 version of VMD’s retail guidance (Section 5 of the manual). The changes are very minor – just the introduction of points as the basis for determining inspection frequency on p13 of the document (plus the date on p1). No substantive changes to the document, so not circulated to currently registered students.

March 2018: updates section E3.4 (page 43) to try to make it clearer that this cross-reference to the Farm module does not embed that material within the Base module. No substantive changes to the document, so not circulated to currently registered students.

October 2017: updates VMD’s guidance “Retail of veterinary medicines” with the 22 September 2017 version (and updated contents pages), replacing 7 October 2016 version. No substantive changes to the document, so not circulated to currently registered students.

September 2017: adds Inspection Criteria for RAMA(SQP) Retailers’ Premises (dated September 2017) after Code of Practice in Section D at pages 115-119 (and updated contents pages). Copy provided to all students by email or post.

July 2017: replaces section D with new RAMA Code of Practice (dated April 2017, issued June 2017), and adds holding page at 115 to replace 115-119. Copy provided to all students by post.
